Comed la Republica!

When the poor of Spain elected a revolutionary socialist government in the 1930’s, landowners came up with a slogan- “Comed la Republica!” or, “Eat the Republic!”

Owners of capital do not have to use it. If they are going to be taxed or regulated, they can just let it sit, or use it in safe places, at lower rates of return, but with less aggravation.

Via Drudge we see that liberals are very upset an Applebee’s franchise in the New York area is looking at a hiring freeze. In Chicago, the city is hiring a grand 55 new employees, and 3,000 applicants show up at a job fair– to find out they have to apply online.

The government can do a lot of things, but as of now they can’t make anyone hire anyone else. If it is not profitable to do so- if the marginal revenue does not cover the marginal cost- they won’t. It’s simple economics, of the micro kind liberals always forget about. The City of Chicago is a grand and power government that rules strictly the territory it controls, punishes its enemies and rewards its friends. But it is not the US government, and cannot print money, so it can only spend what it can collect within its borders. If private economic activity does not provide enough tax revenue the loyal Democratic voters of Chicago can’t be given city jobs as rewards.

The only way socialism can solve this problem is to control all capital and mandate all economic activity- and even then it doesn’t work. Eventually we will get the “single payer” government health program the progressives want so bad, but while that might fly somewhat in a white nation, in a nation that consists more and more of unhealthy poor minorities who consume a lot of “health care” but don’t pay any meaningful amount in taxes, there will be big shortages, and predictably rage at the evil whitey for not paying more.

Eventually Obama voters will have to eat his lofty words.

About thrasymachus33308

I like fast cars, fast women and southern-fried rock. I have an ongoing beef with George Orwell. I take my name from a character in Plato's "Republic" who was exasperated with the kind of turgid BS that passed for deep thought and political discourse in that time and place, just as I am today. The character, whose name means "fierce fighter" was based on a real person but nobody knows for sure what his actual political beliefs were. I take my pseudonym from a character in an Adam Sandler song who was a obnoxious jerk who pissed off everybody.

Well, in theory you can extract resources from whiteys until they drop dead, but so could whitey from his enemies. Hitler was a Leftist.

Saw some liberals on Reddit talking about maintaining a list of companies which have implemented hiring freezes or have scaled back etc. Apparently the purpose was to make sure companies (or more generally, producers) knew they were being watched. Very creepy.

There’s some truth here, but a lot trickle down is contradicted by what we’ve seen with our own eyes over the last few years (remember all the useless curios Ken Lay bought with other people’s money?) What a man does with his own money is his business, but a lot of the subsidy (and moral hazard) money of the type pumped in by Paulson, Geithner, Bernake, etc. doesn’t go to create jobs or even to stimulate the economy in the simplest, broken window economics. A lot of it goes to buy the wife a house in Hyanisport, the mistress a Czarist Faberge egg from Sotheby’s, and the dominatrix in Manhattan ten grand or so to make it hurt with the Cat-O-Nine tails. The Occupy rabble are easy targets (just like the tea party), but they are not entirely wrong (just like the Tea Party).

Moldbug is a fool, but he is not wrong: Obama is not Robespierre, or a Muslim, or a Communist. He is nominally a socialist, but in this context he is more of a crony capitalist. I think what we are witnessing right now is the Tammany/Chicago city government model grafted onto a nation state. Assuming this has no antecedents in American history, no one knows exactly how this will turn out. Still, I lean toward your earlier supposition that the age of the expert is coming to an end. Someone should tell Krugman that he needs to be careful what he wishes for.

I think formal harems would be cheaper.

    • The people Obama cares about already have health insurance and are not affected by the law- people on Medicaid, government employees, and people who work for large, politically connected corporations. These organizations aren’t too much affected by the costs. That leaves a lot of businesses that make an economic calculus with each person they hire.

So many cool things are possible in all white societies. Just look at Norway.

Alas, the very things that make white society work also seem to make it self destruct.
