Nothing Left to Lie About

Paul Kersey is running a series on Detroit. This comment struck me-

…an event on par with the collapse of the Soviet Union …

I was in Eastern Europe following the Fall of the Berlin Wall. When I discussed why communism collapsed, the most common answer was that people got tired of having to tell lies all the time. Telling the truth started with little things such as the samizdat underground press and eventually worked its way up to millions of people in the streets and squares.

There’s an equivalent of the samizdat today, the Internet as well as every other manner of social media. The foundations of the DWL fortress are built on mighty fine quicksand. It’s a question of how many people it would take to shout out the truth before that fortress collapses.

Something to consider… /end quote

The system is based on lies. Lies that people could kid themselves they believed, 50, 40, 30, maybe even 20 years ago. But people cannot lie, and live on lies forever. The human spirit will not tolerate it. There is no MSM any more. Newspapers, for over a hundred years a part of daily life, are dying. People keep the idiot box on, but don’t really watch or believe any of it. If you are not a drone- if you really want alternative information- you can find it. The Web acts just as much as an enabler, of course, with echo chambers for leftists. But the fact that they can get together and agree on the same lies makes them weaker, not stronger. They are more and more disconnected from society and reality.

I want to know how to make the thing crack, badly. We all know what the deal is, and we don’t need to convince ourselves. We hardly need to convince society at large, they all know as well as we do, even if they aren’t as openly conscious or willing to admit it.

About thrasymachus33308

I like fast cars, fast women and southern-fried rock. I have an ongoing beef with George Orwell. I take my name from a character in Plato's "Republic" who was exasperated with the kind of turgid BS that passed for deep thought and political discourse in that time and place, just as I am today. The character, whose name means "fierce fighter" was based on a real person but nobody knows for sure what his actual political beliefs were. I take my pseudonym from a character in an Adam Sandler song who was a obnoxious jerk who pissed off everybody.
